Overview
Salt + Sage is a conceptual brand identity designed for an estate organization company, developed as part of a logo and visual direction exploration for a client. This concept was not ultimately selected, so identifying details have been changed for confidentiality. This project demonstrates my process for creating brands that establish trust and stand out in a competitive market.
Brand Strategy and Goals
Salt + Sage represents the perfect balance of grounding and renewal. The name combines two powerful elements: salt for its clarifying and stabilizing properties, and sage for its association with cleansing and fresh beginnings. Together, they embody the transformative process of creating peaceful, organized spaces while honoring the emotional journey involved.
This direction aimed to distinguish the company from competitors with a modern, inviting, and thoughtful identity. The strategy focused on communicating clarity, warmth, and compassion, with the goal of supporting a positive client experience during sensitive transitions.
Visual Identity Elements
- Logo & tagline
A minimal linework emblem features open hands gently cradling a home, accented by botanical elements. This combination symbolizes the careful, nurturing approach taken when handling clients’ belongings and spaces, as well as a mindful respect for the natural cycle of change – reflected in the tagline, “Handle with Care”. The circular frame conveys a sense of wholeness and completion.
The mark is approachable and memorable, offering strong recognition in both print and digital formats. An alternate version of the logo provides flexibility for different applications.
- Typography
Josefin Slab: This modern serif, used for headings, balances tradition and freshness.
Josefin Sans: A complementary sans-serif maintains clarity and accessibility for supporting text.
- Color Palette
The selection of muted greens, warm sands, and earthy neutrals conveys calm, reliability, and modernity. The palette’s flexibility allows for elegant, understated brand assets while retaining personality.
Creative Process and Collaboration
The creative process for “Salt + Sage” involved working closely with the client to clarify her vision and uncover the brand’s core values. With the project starting from a blank slate, much of the collaboration focused on exploring different design directions and discussing key branding principles. This process required a high level of adaptability, patience, and proactive communication to ensure the client felt supported and informed at every step. Ultimately, while a different logo concept was selected, the project strengthened my ability to guide clients through uncertain or evolving brand decisions and to deliver thoughtful, cohesive concepts tailored to their unique needs.
